A multi tower development, 1635 Lawrence Ave. W. is tackling the housing crisis by proposing to build four towers of mainly affordable housing in the city's underserved northwest. Located at Lawrence and Black Creek Dr, currently, the site is a dated 3.5-acre strip mall plaza and once completed the area will be transformed into a beautiful residential area including a substantial outdoor courtyard amenity in the centre of the project with various indoor amenity and residential programming wrapping around it and retail at grade. The towers will have more than 1,400 units and the project will encompass nearly one million square feet. Ranging in height from 15 to 35 storeys, to be a mixture of condo ownership and rental units, with 70 per cent of the housing units planned to be affordable. The 4 towers share a typical footprint and layout to fulfil affordability of the building. The Towers are diversified not only by different heights but also by rotating and mirroring the very same layout. Each tower contains two interlocking volumes. The one that ends with the mechanical penthouse popup has a simple pattern, while the other is more playful by adding a staggered horizontal grid with copper vertical elements inside.
