123 Portland is a boutique condo situated mid-way between the bustling neighbourhoods of King and Queen West.
Inspired by the familiar block design in places such as the historic centre of Paris, the tailored design has a grounding presence on the corner of Portland and Adelaide that brings orderly sophistication to the streets. The facade carries a warm material palette, giving it a welcoming and natural glow. Soft, cream-toned piers combine with the darker inset frames of the windows and balconettes, together blending into a rich and textured depth to the facade.
The main entrance for the residences is located on the quieter Portland Street, while the retail space occupies the prominent south-west corner for better exposure. It is envisioned that this non-residential space be filled with a use related to arts and culture, such as a gallery or a cultural institution. The setback of the ground floor provides a wider and partially-covered sidewalk along Adelaide, improving the experience for pedestrians walking along the building.
The window grid on the facade provides maximum flexibility for the arrangement of residential units per floor. Every window is operable as grand double-door juliette balconies, opening inwards without obstruction to allow direct light and fresh air into the apartments.
From massing to detail, the project offers a classic yet contemporary backdrop to play out a seasoned urban lifestyle.
